Assessment
Introduction
My assessment is a quiz from Quia. It is a fill-in blank because students need to demonstrate their knowledge of the Imperfect Subjunctive.
Instructions: Conjugate the verb in parenthesis in the Imperfect Subjunctive using Subject-Verb agreement. Each response is worth 1 point for a maximum of 10 points.
The Goal is to assess how much have the learners mastered the subtopic of the Imperfect Subjunctive and the extent in which they can apply their new skills into sentences that require the Imperfect Subjunctive.
Learning Objectives:
Learners will be able to demonstrate their ability to conjugate an infinitive verb in the Imperfect Subjunctive.
Rubric
9 or higher points = A
8 = B
7 = C
6 = D
5 or lower = F
Reflections
I created an assessment from Quia. Basically there are 10 sentences written in Italian, and each one of them has an infinitive verb in parenthesis. Students are instructed to conjugate the verb in the Imperfect Subjunctive. The trick to conjugating the verb is that the conjugation must agree with the subject. When using the Imperfect Subjunctive, it is necessary for the sentence to have two parts, the Main Clause and the Subordinate Clause. The conjugated verb in the Main Clause is going to require that the verb in the Subordinate Clause be conjugated in the Imperfect Subjunctive.
In this assessment, the verb in the Main Clause is already conjugated in the mood or tense that it needs to be. The only thing that students need to do is conjugate the verb in parenthesis in the Subordinate Clause into the Imperfect Subjunctive. Students do not have multiple choice options. This is a Fill-in quiz to test their mastery skills for the Imperfect Subjunctive. My overall goal is to really find out if they can do this; otherwise the lesson needs to be retaught.
The quiz is done online. Students enter first and last names; then click on start to start the quiz. Students will fill-in each box with the appropriate answer, and when they are done, they click on submit. The quiz shows how much each answer is worth which is one point for a maximum of ten points.
I chose Fill-in the blank because I wanted to make sure the learners knew the answers. When I was preparing the quiz, I had the option of typing in several correct answers. But in this case, there is only one correct answer. Learners either know the answer or they do not. The preparation of the quiz online was simple enough. There was box where I typed in the introduction, instructions and learning objectives. I then proceeded to type in ten sentences: Each one of them has a verb in the infinitive form in parenthesis. Then I typed the correct answer in the Imperfect Subjunctive in agreement with the subject.
